Lesson 2 - British Empire: Australia and Tasmania

A lesson about the British Empire in Australia with a case study on Tasmania, This is lesson 2 in my series of lessons on British Empire.

Students will be recap the British Empire with a keyword starter task. Students then move on to look at Australia with a series of task intertwined with a guided reading for signposting. Students are introduced to the concept of genocide with a case study on Tasmania before being required to make a judgement on whether The Tasmanian Massacre was in fact a genocide. The plenary is to look a the impact of the British Empire in Australia with a short colour coding task.

All of my lessons are designed to last at least 60 minutes, however they can be adapted to fit the ability of your class. This lesson could last longer than 60 minutes if needed, the Tasmanian case study can be left out if time is short.
