Lesson 5 - Evaluating the Empire
Lesson 5 - Evaluating the Empire
A lesson that looks at evaluating the empire, This is lesson 5 in my series of lessons on British Empire.
Students will start by examining the question of whether the British Empire is really something to be proud of by reading a quote from a historian that specialises in empire and slavery. A guided reading task allows students to pick apart and examine this viewpoint. This is then compared to an alternative viewpoint and students are introduced to the ideas of traditional, revisionist and post-revisionist viewpoints with a task to plot these on a timeline and examine why opinions change over time.
All of my lessons are designed to last at least 60 minutes, however they can be adapted to fit the ability of your class.
